Hyderabad: The 'My Auto is Safe' campaign under which owners of autos opt to keep a sticker that displays auto data to ensure safety of passengers is gaining traction. As many as 38,000 autos have opted for the sticker. The campaign started in the month of January by the city police.

Passengers can scan the QR code in autos and connect with well wishers when in need. Additional DCP Bhaskar said, "Although the initial response was slow, the project is now picking up. We are witnessing around 500 registrations daily in Goshamal and Begumpet Traffic Training Institutes."

The project which was launched in January is aimed at making passengers feel safe while travelling in the autos, reducing crime rates and controlling traffic violations by drivers.

"Auto drivers are very happy with this project as this increases the value of them and the vehicle. Upon scanning the QR code, the passenger can choose to complain against the driver if necessary.

The most satisfied are the parents who send their school children in autos as they have every detail of the driver and they feel safe," adds Bhaskar.

The QR code also allows the passenger to rate the auto driver, depending on the public response, the city police is considering to award the drivers according to the ranks.

Passengers can now complain against drivers who demand the fare exceeding the meter price. There are about 7-8 complaints to choose from and commuters can also type in problems and submit to police.
