Nagarkurnool: 9 labourers injured as overloaded vehicle overturns
Nagarkurnool: As many as 9 persons were severely injured in a road accident at Desitikyala village of Nagarkurnool district on Monday.
According to reports, 20 labourers were travelling in a goods carrier from Singotam village of Kollapur mandal to Nagarkurnool for working in a cotton field. However, as the vehicle reached Desitikyala village, while taking a curvy turn, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned into a roadside pit.
Among the 20 workers who were in the vehicle, 11 of them escaped safely with minor injuries, while 9 others were severely injured. The locals who noticed the incident immediately rushed for the rescue of the injured and shifted them to Nagarkurnool district hospital for treatment.
The injured persons belong to poor families and they are making a living by working as daily wage workers in cotton fields.
The police registered a case against the driver for causing the accident due to his negligent driving. "Overspeeding of the vehicle is one of the major reasons for the accident. We are advising the labourers not to overload themselves in the vehicles as it will lead to accidents. Bolero Van can accommodate only 7-8 persons for safe travel, however the driver violated the norms and allowed 20 persons, which is breach of traffic rules," said the Nagarkurnool police.
