Hyderabad: Nala desilting gathers pace
Hyderabad: GHMC is stepping up desilting of nalas across the city in order to avoid inundation of low-lying areas, an annual feature.
Acting at the behest of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao, the GHMC has come up with a schedule to complete the works during the lockdown period. Mayor Bonthu Rammohan directed the officials concerned to keep the past experiences in mind while ensuring completion of the works prior to arrival of rainy season.
MA&UD Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar inspected nala extension work costing Rs 2 crore at Dabilpura on Wednesday. MLC Riyaz-ul-Hassan, MLA Kadhri Pasha, Corporator Basith, SE Narsing Rao, Deputy commissioners Mangatayaru, Surya Kumar, Rajini Kanth and others were present.
Maintenance engineer Ziauddin informed said that 345 works had been sanctioned to complete cover 4.79 lakh cubic meters in a year. "The target for this season is 3.29 cubic metres and work for 2.6 cubic meters has been completed till now. Officials are monitoring and the works would be completed within 10 days. The silt is being transported to Jawahar Nagar dump yard. As much as 90 per cent of desilting work has been completed under the Charminar zone. More number of workers are deputed to complete the works in Khairatabad and Secundrabad zones. As per the regulations, iron fences have been installed along big nalas," he added.
