Peddapalli: Telangana State Finance Commission Chairman Rajesham Goud urged the Central government to give national status to Kaleshwaram project, which was constructed to fulfil the irrigation and drinking water needs of the people of Telangana.

On Wednesday, he inspected the under tunnel constructed at Nandi Pump House under Kaleshewaram project at Dharmaram mandal of Peddapalli district.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman said that after the construction of Kaleshwaram project, Godavari River water from Pranahitha project is lifted and supplied to upper stream for a stretch of about 200 km until the water flows into the Sri Ram Sagar project. Very soon, SRSP project water will be supplied to farmers for irrigation purpose for two successive crops. Kaleshwaram project was designed so as to utilise about 400 tmc ft of water that is present in plenty in Godavari River, and completed in record time of just three years, he added.

The credit for the project goes to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for completing this major irrigation project in record time for the wellbeing of the farming sector. It is the responsibility of the Central government to accord national status to this project, which had allotted national status to one water project in every State, he demanded.

Rajesham Goud said that he is going to write a letter in this regard to the Central government.

State Finance Commission member M Chennaiah, Rangareddy district Zilla Parishad Chairperson Anitha Redy, Kaleshwaram project Engineer-in-Chief Nalla Venkateswarlu and other officials were present.
