NIMS doctors save newborn baby girl in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In an inhumane act, a newborn baby was abandoned in bushes in NIMS Hospital, Panjagutta premises on Wednesday. After a youngster near ATM bank spotted her and alerted the outpost security staff, she was immediately rushed to the Emergency wing of the hospital, where doctors led by the HoD Prof Ashima Sharma immediately attended to her.

According to Ashima, the baby was born less than 24 hours ago and she was looking blue when brought for treatment. Her oxygen levels and heart rate were found to be less for a newborn child. Also, the umbilical cord was not removed. She said team of doctors attended to her and in few hours she recovered.

The baby became active and was looking at people much to the prayers of everyone around there, she said.NIMS doctors brought her a dress, baby mattress also cut a cake to celebrate the occasion. In the evening, the fully recovered baby was handed over to staff of Shishu Vihar, Ameerpet who came to hospital to pick her after information of her being abandoned was shared with them.

NIMS HoD Dr Ashima said that she was happy that the baby was saved. She expressed anguish over girl children are being abandoned despite so much sensitisation being done at various levels over the years.
