NITW introduces electric bikes on campus

Hanamkonda: The NIT Warangal has been in the forefront of launching several green Initiatives on its campus, such as making the campus clean and green with several plantations, installing and usage of solar power, disposal of food waste and garden waste and converting into compost.

Adding more to its initiatives, the NIT on Thursday launched the "Epick Bikes". The Epick Bikes is a Start-up company based in Hyderabad founded by an alumnus of NIT Warangal. It is an Unmanned Electric Bicycle Rental system where in students can use electric bicycles on rental basis just with click on their mobile phone.

These electric bicycles can be used like a scooter and also in Pedal Assist Mode. It gives range of 40km per one single charge if used as scooters and 70 km on pedal assist.

Epick Bikes is a docked system, which makes the campus free from cluttering and inculcates sense of responsibility. The Bikes are GPS enabled and can understand the usage pattern and provide better services in future.

"In the vision of creating a green campus, we at NITW are introducing Epick Bikes in our campus as an alternative mode to regular internal combustion vehicles. This solution not only reduces the carbon emission inside the campus but also enhances the comfort of mode of transportation inside and outside the campus for NITW students," NITW Director Prof NV Ramana Rao said.

'On full scale implementation of Epick Bikes we could convert 2,000 km of fuel-based commute to electric commute every day. I am proud to announce you that we are the first Educational Institution to implement unmanned Electric Bicycle Rental System,' Rao said.
