Nizamabad likely to see pitched battle between TRS, BJP

Nizamabad: Municipal elections in Nizamabad district are likely to witness a pitched battle between the ruling TRS and the BJP in Nizamabad district. Erstwhile Nizamabad district has six municipalities and one municipal corporation.

The Congress had won the Kamareddy municipality in the last elections. The TRS had won the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation and Armoor and Bodhan municipalities.The Congress had started the vote bank politics in Nizamabad district.

The TRS had followed in the footsteps of the Congress. The BJP is trying to gain strength by luring prominent leaders into the party. The defeat of K Kavitha in the Lok Sabha elections is considered to be shot in the arm for the saffron party.

The BJP is facing shortage of leaders, but the party leaders claim that it has gained people's confidence. The TRS leaders are gearing up the party machinery to face the fight likely to be put up by the saffron party. The TRS may contest the elections in alliance with the MIM. But the Congress and BJP may go it alone.

In Bodhan, the TRS has strong presence as it is led by influential leaders. Kamareddy municipality, which was won by the Congress in the last elections, has 49 wards. Some of the Congress councillors had defected to the TRS. Some BJP councillors too had migrated to the TRS. The chairperson too had defected to the TRS.

BJP leaders claimed that a large number of youth from all sections have been enrolling as party members in the current membership drive. It is competing with the TRS in membership drive. Bheemgal is the new municipality. There are 12 wards. Previously, the Congress was a strong force in the Gram Panchayat. Now, the TRS has gained strength in the municipality. The BJP too has been campaigning to capture the municipality.
