Nizamabad: Consumption of the 19 kg commercial gas cylinder, used by hotels, tiffin centres, tea bunks, restaurants etc is yet to pick up in the erstwhile Nizamabad district, even 20 days after lockdown norms were relaxed for the service sector.

Many eatery centres were closed since the staff returned to their hometowns soon after lockdown relaxation. While some others are in wait and watch mode to gauge the customer moods, only a few tiffin centres and restaurants were opened.

But many people were afraid to eat outside food due to coronavirus threat. They are not even dare to drink tea at tea shop.

In this situation, there is no demand for commercial gas cylinders in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts.

Not only commercial, but usage of domestic gas cylinders was also decreased. Since BC, SC, ST welfare hostels, KGBV and minority hostels were not opened due to Covid-19 spread, the government welfare department is not buying subsidized

LPG cylinder. Anganwadi centres also not buying cylinder.

Under normal situation, the welfare department use 26,915 liquid petroleum gas cylinders per month. The closure of government and private colleges and coaching centres has affected the sales of commercial liquefied petroleum gas cylinders.

A gas dealer said the demand for 19 kg and domestic cylinder is far from normal at present, but there are signs of recovery. LPG cylinders' sale in the first fortnight of June was only 8% of the sales that were registered at this same time last year.

According to information, 837 units of 19 kg LPG cylinders were sold in Nizamabad from June 1 to 20 against 13,916 units in last June. According to trade numbers, 39,216 units of 14 kg LPG cylinders were sold in Nizamabad in last May against 9,3816 units sold in May 2020.
