Nizamabad: Start conserving water from today
Nizamabad: Nikunja Kishore Sundaray, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Jal Shakti Abhiyan CEO, said water should be conserved from today to address the water problems in future. As part of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Kishore Sundaray held a meeting with the district officials on Monday at Pragathi Bhavan in Nizamabad. He said the Union government has decided to implement Jal Shakti Abhiyan in 256 districts across the country. He appreciated District Collector M Rammohan Rao for reacting swiftly and for drafting an action plan for its implementation. He congratulated the Collector that he had prepared his entire staff as soldiers for the implementation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan. The Collector has drawn up a well-designed plan for water conservation and taken steps for implementing the plan so far.
Nikunja Kishore said Jal Shakti Abhiyan is taking its first step from Nizamabad district in the country and lauded that Telangana State is already became an ideal for other States in the country in water conservation through Mission Kakatiya. He said the people of the State are struggling to balance the environment by taking mass plantation drive.
Through PowerPoint presentation, Collector MRM Rao explained that 5,000 watersheds have been constructed in the district so far for water conservation. Tanks and ponds have been dredged to increase water storage capacity and each tank bund has been strengthened through Mission Kakatiya. Velpur, Armur, Morthad, Mupkal and Nizamabad in the district have been identified as mandals with water problem and the district administration is planning to pay attention to them.
The Collector said steps were being taken to provide clean and safe water to all the houses through Mission Bhagiratha. About 93 per cent of the work was completed, he added. MRM Rao informed that 1.8 crore plants have been planted till date and tree guards have been installed to protect the plants from livestock.
Jal Shakthi Abhiyan technical officer Majeti Ravi, DFO Sunil, DRDO Ramesh Rathod, Ground Water DD Prasad and district officials, irrigation engineers and others attended the meeting.
