No admin posts for seniors after 58 yrs: Protesting doctors to government
Hyderabad: Following government's decision to increase the retirement age of teaching faculty in government medical colleges from 58 years to 65 years, a section of doctors, who have opposed the decision all along, have decided to insist on a provision that no administrative posts should be given to seniors after crossing 58 years, while guidelines are prepared.
They feel the objective of the age hike decision is to address the lack of teaching staff in hospitals and it will not be fulfilled if seniors continue to hold plum posts in the administration and in the department.
According to the doctors, some seniors holding key posts have set eyes on continuing in that posts now that age hike decision has been taken.
"If not for age enhancement decision, some of the seniors, holding administrative posts, were set to retire this month end as they have completed 58 years of age.
Now they want to enjoy the power by continuing in that post for some more time. This should not be allowed," stated the doctors.
The cut-off age for holding administrative posts is different in different States, in some States it is 60 years while in some others it is 62 years irrespective of the enhanced retirement age.
It remains to be seen what cut-off age would the Telangana government finalise for seniors to hold administrative posts.
Members of the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJDA) and Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) have decided to stress on "no administrative posts for seniors after 58 years" while giving their views to the panel that would be constituted to frame guidelines.
"Health Minister had assured the TJUDA that their views would be taken into consideration while framing age hike implementation guidelines.
We would also put forth our view on this issue," stated HRDA president Dr Mahesh Kumar. A section of Telangana Government Doctors Association also echoed similar sentiments.
The doctors stated that their view was conveyed to Health Minister earlier when he invited them for talks on various pending issues.
