No end to deadline for Bhagiratha water to flow out of taps

Hyderabad: The Mission Bhagiratha officials may miss the January deadline of completing the project as the intra village works have been progressing at snail's pace.

Though they have taken up 100-day action plan to complete the works on schedule, the works may not be completed by January due to contractors' negligence.

In November, the Mission Bhagiratha officials decided to take up 100-day action plan to complete the project by January. They instructed the work agencies to complete all the works in November, December and January.

According to sources, the works have been completed only up to 20 per cent as far as intra village works were concerned. Though bulk supply pipelines have been completed, the distribution lines have to be laid in the villages.

The intra village works may not be completed as planned and the officials may miss the deadline.

Mission Bhagiratha has been taken up to provide treated surface water through taps to each household of all the villages and municipalities in the State.

Under the programme, water is procured from the rivers, rivulets and dams. It would be treated at the treatment plants and then be supplied to the houses.

Under the programme, bulk supply pipelines have been laid from the source to the treatment plants and from thereon to villages.

Overhead tanks have to be constructed in several villages for supplying water through the gravity. However, in most of the villages the distribution pipelines have not been laid so far.

Tap connections have to be provided to each house after laying of distribution lines and these works were progressing at snail's pace.

In the villages, where distribution pipelines have been laid in each street, tap connections have not been provided. In some villages tap connections have been given to two to three houses at one point.

Apart from giving tap connections, under the 100-day action plan, cement foundations have to be constructed to the taps, old tanks have to be repaired and they should be put to use, supply of water should be ensured to the last tap with proper force, pipes should be laid under the ground, concrete should be put on the ditches being dug for laying pipelines.

But these works have not been completed in several villages.

The officials have been blaming the contractors for the delay in completion of them. In several villages contractors have dug up the roads and left them without repair.
