No end to suicides even after State formation: Jagga Reddy

Update: 2019-11-14 00:19 IST

Hyderabad: The Congress MLA from Sangareddy T Jagga Reddy on Wednesday said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had stated in the past that there would be no more suicides in Telangana once the statehood is given to it. But, several farmers and RTC workers have been ending their lives after the formation of the State, he said.

Addressing the media, he mentioned that for the first time in the history of Telangana State, the RTC workers had been on strike for the last 40 days. The MLA said the RTC workers are on strike with the sole demand of the merger of the Road Transport Corporation with the State government. Jagga Reddy stated he was clueless about how long the strike would continue. He expressed surprise over the adamant attitude of the State government for not putting an end to the RTC strike even after the High Court passed strictures against the State government on the issue.

He brought to the notice of the State government that the RTC workers, who were being paid low salaries, were suffering from different kinds of health problems. He said an RTC employee Naresh had committed suicide due to financial problems.

The MLA mentioned that there was no value for the protests being held by the workers in the State. Stating that there was no presence of employees' unions' leaders like Swamy Goud, Mamata, Ravinder, Devi Prasad and Srinivas Goud, who is now a minister, he alleged that the representatives of the employees' unions' were toeing the line of the chief minister and the State government and keeping mum on the problems raised by the RTC workers.
