Hyderabad: Sixteen hospitals in Ranga Reddy district have been served notices by the Health department officials. Of them, 12 are found to have committed major violations while the remaining four have minor shortcomings.

They have been given 15 days to correct the shortcomings failing which authorities will initiate proceedings as per law.

It may be mentioned here that after the tragic fire accident in Shine Children's Hospital in LB Nagar falling under Ranga Reddy jurisdiction, the Health department shifted its focus on the state of affairs in various hospitals in the district.

According to DMHO Dr Swarajya Lakshmi, 27 hospitals were inspected till now out of which 12 hospitals had major violations like not having latest fire NoC, bio-medical waste disposal certificate, insufficient doctors and shortage of paramedical staff.

Also, four hospitals which did not maintain register or records properly were also told to fix the issues, the DMHO said.

There are 470 plus hospitals registered with the office of Ranga Reddy DMHO which include small, medium and big hospitals. However, district health authorities are focusing initially only on 60 hospitals, which have a bed capacity of 30 and above.

"Hospitals having 30 beds and above need to fulfil infrastructure, fire, waste disposal related rules without fail. Hence, we are inspecting these hospitals first," Dr Lakshmi said.

Also, four private medical colleges with teaching hospitals also fall in Ranga Reddy district jurisdiction.

These hospitals have 600 to 800 beds and according to officials they inspected one college and it was found to fulfil all required criteria.
