NREGA workers facing hardships, says labourars' body
Parigi: District Vyvasaya Karmika Sangham (Agriculture Labours Association) secretary M Venkataiah inspected the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) works at Govindapur village, here on Wednesday. He enquired about the issues faced by the labourers.
Speaking on the occasion, Venkataiah said there were no facilities in the area where 300 workers had been engaged in the work. He alleged that workers were facing lot of hardships and did they do not know as to how much they were paid.
There was no proper supervision by the officials, he added. "Children are also brought by their parents to the workplace where severe heat conditions prevail. The poor children have to wait under the scorching sun. There is a rule that an Ayah should be there to look after these children," he said. Venkataiah also said that 20 members of the village have no job cards.
He demanded that the project director and the assistant project director should enquire into the matter and take action against the responsible. "We are taking this issue to the 'Prajavani' on June 3rd, and I request all the workers to participate in large numbers," he appealed.
