Official apathy leads to garbage pile-up
Maredpally: Garbage has been piling up at various colonies in Cantonment constituency, such as East Maredpally, West Maredpally, Kharkhana and Vasavi Nagar these days.
Locals demand that the Cantonment Board officials address the issue and ensure that the garbage is removed regularly. It appears that neither sanitation workers nor the board officials seem to be concerned about lifting of the piled-up garbage from the colonies.
Locals complain that the sanitation staff has not been removing the garbage every day. One can see tree branches which fell at Teachers' Colony a week ago due to rains still lying on footpath of the Tukaram Gate Road.
Despite several complaints, the tree branches have not been removed by sanitation workers, locals alleged. They are apprehensive that the piled-up garbage may result in spread of diseases.
Some locals have alleged that the supervisors and contractors who are responsible for monitoring the lifting of garbage are whiling away their time at local hotels.
