Officials make U-turn on promises to repair roads

Update: 2019-09-06 01:41 IST

• Residents of various colonies had recently laid siege to Ameenpur municipal office

• Dharnas by representatives of political parties also have no effect on officials

Ameenpur: Local municipal officials have failed to honour their assurance of repairing roads 'in a few days' after residents of various colonies recently laid siege to the municipal office.

Even dharnas by representatives of various political parties have had no effect on the officials. The road has become a curse for auto drivers, two-wheeler riders, pregnant women, other road-users like tractors, water tankers, four-wheelers.

The protests by all sections of people demanding better roads comes in the wake of Ameenpur fast emerging as an ideal town to live in Telangana and patronised by poor people, software professionals, traders and employees. They are paying taxes in crores. But yet basic facilities are being denied to them, despite submission of numerous representations to officials.

The main road in the town and internal roads in colonies have become unfit for public use due to potholes, lack of widening and repairs, despite recommendation of experts. Both the public representatives and officials concerned are adopting a negligent attitude to the pleas of people seeking immediate road repairs.

Speaking to The Hans India, some residents expressed anguish over lack of response to their repeated pleas. They point out that the road from the Beeramguda Kaman to Kishtareddypet has become worst, with women, elders, school students and employees suffering.

Many have fallen in potholes and sustained injuries. Recently a water tanker got capsized. Luckily, none was near the accident spot. The residents expressed fears that there could be loss of lives in road mishaps during nights if immediate repairs were not taken up.
