Order judicial probe into crime against women: Jeevan Reddy
Hyderabad: Congress MLC T Jeevan Reddy on Tuesday demanded that the government hold judicial inquiry into the rape and murder of women in the State and criticised that atrocities against women were on the rise in the State.
Addressing the media, he said that most of the victims of these incidents belong to Backward, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
He said that justice could be done to them only through independent inquiry. He said that the number of rape and murder of women are on the rise due to rampant sale of liquor in the State.
He alleged that the government was considering sale of liquor as source of revenue but in fact it is the main reason behind the growing atrocities against women.
He alleged that the other reason for the rise in the atrocities was negligence of police. He said that the police have been devoting all their time to serve the ruling party
leaders.
"In my 40 years of political life I did not see such a misuse of police force. Each MLA is provided with escort," he said.
He made it clear that if the police have acted in time Disha could have survived. He advised Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy to learn about the Disha incident and make comments on the encounter of the accused.
