Over 60 per cent polling in Nagarkurnool, Mahbubnagar
Mahbubnagar: The overall average polling percentage in Nagarkurnool and Mahbubnagar constituencies was around 63.75 per cent from across 14 Assembly constituencies in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district.
By evening when the polls were declared concluded at 5 PM on Thursday, the polling percentage in Mahbubnagar was recorded 64.99 per cent while that of the Nagarkurnool parliamentary constituency it was 62.51 per cent.
Compared to the Assembly elections which recorded more than 95 per cent polling in all the constituencies, the parliamentary elections received a lukewarm response from the voters.
According to poll analysts, the major reason for this lukewarm response in the Lok Sabha elections is that no party including the ruling TRS party and its local leaders have shown keen interest to pool in the voters to the polling booths.
Moreover, the public also unlike in the Assembly elections where the MLA candidate goes to house to house and campaigns for the elections and gets in close contact with the voters, here in parliament elections, the contesting candidates have not done that intense campaigning and could not mingle with the people as effectively as the MLA contestants could do.
The main reason for this is, it is not possible for the MP contestant to go door-to-door in all the 7 Assembly constituencies in a short span of 10 days. "Even though some parties like Congress and TRS announced their candidates about one month before the elections, it became tough for them to interacting with people on a door-to-door level as extensively as the MLA candidates can do.
The contesting candidates largely relied on the support of the local MLAs, and that might be the main reason why people did not show their keenness to vote in the parliament elections," said Srikant, political analysts from Mahbubnagar.
