Panchayats ban liquor sale, drinking in five villages of Kamareddy district

Kamareddy: Five village panchayats of Kamareddy district have decided to ban the consumption and sale of liquor in their jurisdiction and sought the police support for the implementation of their decision.

A complete liquor ban has been implemented from Thursday in Bijjalavadi village of Jukkal mandal in Kamareddy district.

In the presence of Jukkal In charge Sub Inspector Sanjeev, the villagers and women's community members jointly passed the ban.

Anyone who sells alcohol in a village will have to pay a penalty.

The penalty is fixed at Rs 30,000.

If a villager is found in drunken state he will have to pay a penalty of Rs10,000. Bijjalavadi village Sarpanch Yadav, Panchayati Secretary Divya Bharti and former sarpanch requested the police to extend their cooperation on this issue.

It is not confined to a Bijjalwadi village only, Wazidnagar in Bichkunda mandal. Belt shops in Kemraj Kallali, Khandeballur, Dosthpally and Pedda Edgi in Jukkal mandal are closed.

Women say they are taking this tough decision to ensure that their children do not become addicted.
