Parigi: Several people duped by conman

Parigi: A businessman from Tamil Nadu cheated several local people by promising domestic appliances at cheap rates. The accused started a domestic appliances shop in the name of 'Roja Traders' in the town sometime back. He offered 40 per cent discount on all goods if payment was made in advance. He made them believe that goods would be delivered in 7 days. Gullible people paid money in advance and were expecting the goods.

Meanwhile, the businessman decamped with the collected money. People who paid the amount reached the shop and were shocked to know about the cheating. They staged protest in front of the shop. Police registered a case. CI Mogulaiah said they were inquiring into the matter. Police estimate that almost Rs 50,000 worth transactions might have taken place, while victims claim it could be around Rs 1 crore.
