Patients outnumber beds in government hospitals

Nalgonda: The District Coordinator of Hospital Services, Dr Narsingh Rao, has pointed to the limited number of beds in hospitals in the context of spiralling number of patients.

The authorities are forced to make available 50 to 100 beds in wards of each hospital to accommodate ever-increasing number of patients.

Dr Narsingh Rao explained that district government hospital has 550 beds and the Government Area Hospitals in Miryalaguda, Nagarjunasagar and Devarakonda have 100 beds each. The government hospital at Nakrekal is 30-bed facility.

Speaking to The Hans India, Dr Narsingh Rao said all government hospitals in the district are flooded with patients. The doctors and authorities are forced to cope with the overwhelming number of patients.

The government hospitals are unable to provide healthcare to the satisfaction of patients with shortage of doctors and beds.

The patients, who come from middle- class and the rich, prefer to take treatment from private hospitals.

The private hospitals in erstwhile Nalgonda district are crowded with patients suffering from viral fevers.
