Pay higher electricity bill from April 1 in Telangana

Consumers are likely to pay higher electricity bills from April 1 as Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is believed to have agreed to the discoms decision of enhancing the tariff.

The revised tariff will be applicable to domestic, commercial and industrial and is likely to be effective from April 1, 2020. It is learned that the hike in the tariff may fall between 8 per cent to 10 per cent for domestic consumers having power consumption between 100 units-1000 units per month. While the tariff is said to be higher for commercial and industrial categories.

The Chief Minister is said to have taken the decision to this effect in the review meeting held at Pragati Bhavan on Friday. The proposals in tariff hike along with aggregate revenue requirement (ARR) are likely to be submitted to the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) today by the Northern and Southern power distribution companies.

The discoms told the chief minister that the southern power companies are incurring a loss of 39 paise on every unit that is being supplied and the northern power companies are incurring 17 paise loss.

Meanwhile, the chief minister in the review meeting has assured to provide Rs 10,000 crore to power companies in the upcoming budget.
