People will teach defectors a fitting lesson: Uttam
Hyderabad: The Congress party has strongly condemned the defection of MLAs and other leaders to TRS and BJP and described them as opportunists.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, ex-CLP leader K. Jana Reddy, ex-MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and other leaders alleged that some leaders have quit the party only for selfish gains. He said those leaders enjoyed top positions when the Congress party was in power and their greed for power, posts and money drove them to defections.
Uttam Kumar said that former minister DK Aruna had given lame excuses while leaving the party. He said all the opportunist leaders would be taught a fitting lesson by the people of Telangana. He also informed that show-cause notices have been issued to the MLAs who defected to the TRS. He ridiculed the claims being made by defected MLAs that they were joining the ruling party to develop their constituencies. He asked whether Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and his government would not develop constituencies represented by opposition MLAs. In that case, he said it would be better to shift Legislative Assembly and Council to Pragathi Bhavan.
The TPCC President said that TRS would not achieve anything even if it won 16 out of 17 Lok Sabha seats. He said TRS had the support of 15 MPs in Lok Sabha from 2014-19. However, it failed to get anything for Telangana from the Central Government.
Meanwhile, Jana Reddy asked KCR to list out a single development project completed during the last five years.
Senior Congress leader and Bhongir Lok Sabha candidate Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and former PCC President Ponnala Lakshmaiah were also present.
