Periyar remembered in Warangal
Warangal: The members of Kakatiya University (KU) Technical Association paid tributes to E V Ramasamy, popularly known as Periyar, on the occasion of his 140th birth anniversary here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Kola Shankar said Periyar who opposed the exploitation and marginalisation of the non-Brahmin Dravidian people promoted the principles of rationalism, self-respect and eradication of caste.
All India Universities Employees Confederation (AIUEC) Vice-President Dr Pulla Srinivas said Periyar formed the Self-Respect Movement in 1925, and it went on to become a major milestone in the history of anti-caste movement. V Nandaiah, Balaji, V Premsagar, Mettu Ravi, N Ailaiah, B Prabhakar, K Venkatnarsaiah and Vidyasagar were among others present.
