Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has instructed officials to construct a dedicated drinking water reservoir for Greater Hyderabad at Keshavaram Shameerpet mandal to put an end to the drinking water crisis of the twin cities.

The CM suggested that Godavari water from Mallanna Sagar and Konda Pochamma reservoirs should be supplied to fill up the proposed reservoir whenever it is required.

Holding a review meeting on water resources at Pragati Bhavan on Monday, the Chief Minister instructed the officials of irrigation and rural water supply to prepare estimates for the proposed reservoir after a joint meeting.

The CM also instructed that every household within the Outer Ring Road should be given drinking water connection.

"As on date, we are diverting water from Krishna and Godavari from a faraway distance to Hyderabad. Despite this, it is not meeting the drinking water needs of Hyderabad.

This should not happen in future. Mallanna Sagar and Konda Pochampally reservoirs are getting water from the Kaleswaram project.

The government has issued orders allocating 10 per cent of the water for drinking purposes. Hence, water from these two reservoirs should be supplied to Hyderabad. Construct a reservoir and water treatment plant at Keshavapuram," the CM said.

Minister Malla Reddy, MLA Sabita Indrareddy, Government Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, Principal Secretary Narsing Rao, Principal Secretary (Municipal) Arvind Kumar, GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore and other officials took part in the meeting.
