Plans afoot to build new reservoirs: Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy

Gadwal: Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy stressed that the State government is aiming to make farming profitable to farmers and is giving highest priority to improve agriculture and allied sectors since the formation of Telangana six years ago.

He inaugurated Rythu Vedika and Palle Pragathi Vanam in Peddapally and Kurthi Ravula Cheruvu villages in Maldakal mandal in the district on Sunday. The Minister said even though the entire world was reeling under deadly coronavirus pandemic, farmers in the country and particularly in Telangana, worked fearlessly and produced record farming produce. This was possible only because of the various initiatives taken up by the TRS government for the welfare and development of farmers across the State, he added.

The Minister reminded that the government had introduced Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima and 24-hour free power supply to the farming sector in addition to supplying of subsidised seeds and fertilisers to all farmers. Not only improving the farming sector, but the government also taken up various development activities like Rythu Vedikas, Palle Pragathi Vanams, construction of crematoriums, dump yards, laying of roads, providing safe drinking tap water to change the face of rural villages completely. The State government is moving with short term and long-term plans for uplifting farming sector, he added.

Minister Niranjan Reddy said the government is planning to construct new reservoirs soon and trying to provide water to five lakh acres under Nettampad Lift Irrigation scheme.

Very soon the government would call for tenders for Nettampad lift irrigation project with a cost of Rs 600 crore and the project will be completed within two years. Similarly, another irrigation project of Gattu Lift irrigation will also be taken up soon on par with Jurala project and will bring Gadwal uplands under cultivation, informed the Minister.
