Pleads with PM Narendra Modi for GST compensation

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday clarified that the lockdown period was over and un-lockdown period had begun in the country. He was responding to the apprehensions raised by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao during PM's videoconference with the Chief Ministers on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister told the states that it was time for Unlock 2.0 and hence the Chief Ministers should focus their attention on ensuring that there was no surge in the spread of corona and reviving the economic sector.

KCR explained the measures the state government was taking with regard to curbing coronavirus and claimed that the situation was under control and that the death rate had also come down. Admitting that a large number of cases were being reported under the GHMC limits, KCR said that all necessary measures were being take to control the situation.

Te Chief Minister felt that the economic activity could be put on fast track if the migrant labour from Bihar could return to Telangana. Stating that 'hamalis' from Bihar are ready to come back to Telangana, he urged the Prime Minister to take necessary steps to move hamailis to Telangana. Referring to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, KCR in a lighter vein said that hamalis were willing to come but it was the Bihar CM who was not permitting them to move out of the state. "Nitish Ji, we are taking care of hamalis coming from your State. Our Chief Secretary is also a Bihari. Please send hamalis," KCR said.

KCR also requested the PM for the early release of GST compensation and the all pending grants to overcome the financial crisis. He said the State government has already submitted memoranda to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the release of the GST amount of nearly Rs 3,000 crore.
