Alleged illegal construction adjacent to Pochamma Cheruvu

Hyderabad: Pochamma Cheruvu and Rama Cheruvu are two prominent water bodies under the Boduppal Municipal Corporation.

According to the BMC officials, the Pochamma Cheruvu is a waterbody taken up for recharge and development under the second phase of the State government's flagship programme of Mission Kakatiya.

However, Rani a daily wage worker said that she had worked during the sowing season in the paddy fields adjacent to the Pochamma Cheruvu.

Now, it is no longer the same and everywhere colonies have come up. Some are claiming that it was not a "Cheruvu" but only water used to get collected there for years.

Now, people who owned those low-lying lands are selling or sold them resulting in residential apartments coming all around it.

She further points out that a few days back some officials along with the police came and demolished few houses constructed adjacent to the tank. But, "I don't know what happened. But, again the constructions have started."

Similarly, Subrahmanyam from Chengicherla said that in the case of Rama Cheruvu people are throwing the debris around the Rama Cheruvu.

However, there is no action from the BMC or from any other government departments. This is how people used to throw the debris to fill the water bodies and then to occupy them, he pointed out.
