Police crackdown on overstaying foreigners
Hyderabad: City police on Tuesday conducted surprise searches and found 23 overstaying on lapsed visas. The city police, backed by Special Branch and Task Force sleuths, besides Foreigner Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) launched crackdown on the foreigner overstaying in the city.
The foreigners who were found overstaying were mostly those form Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. According to city Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, as many as 21 teams consisting of more than 200 personnel conducted search operations since 3 am on Tuesday.
The officials conducted searches at Banjara Hills, Golconda, Asifnagar and Humayun Nagar under West Zone and under Osmania University, Amberpet, Saifabad, Chikkadapally and Chandrayangutta police limits.
The Police Commissioner said more than 75 persons who hailed from different countries were questioned and found that 23 persons were overstaying in Hyderabad, lapsed VISAs without passport and on expired passports.
According to Passport Act, the 23 foreigners are now required to apply for regularization of their stay by paying penalty.
They are also required to produce valid papers and take the exit visa. They would be deported to the countries of their origin if they failed to produce valid documents, the Police Commissioner said.
