Police step up action against gambling dens thriving in Krishna river belt

Suryapet: Police have stepped up action against the illegal activities continuing in the Krishna rive belt areas in Suryapet district.

The people living in the villages located along the river follow the same tradition as they share borders with Andhra Pradesh.

Therefore, bullock competitions and cock- fighting are common in these villages. In addition, betting and gambling are very common which are ruining families in these villages.

These villages are centres for illegal transport of banned goods like gutkha, ganja and PDS rice.

As per the police intelligence department, gambling in Palakeedu , Chintalapalem, Matampally and Mellacheruvu mandals of Huzurnagar constituency in the district are carried out secretly.

District police paid special attention on the villages of Krishna river belt to control illegal activities which includes illegal transport of banned goods like gutkha, ganja and gambling which are ruining the lives of common people. Police carries out raids at various places across the Huzurnagar constituency regularly and taking the gamblers into their custody. District SP Bhaaskaran directed the police officials to take stringent action with regard to gambling, and constituted a task force to put check on the illegal transport of PDS rice, gutkha, drugs and other banned items.

The Task Force police collect information with regard to illegal activities regularly and with the help of the local police, conduct sudden raids at respective places and take the responsible persons into their custody and register cases.

The district police registered 42 cases and arrested 160 persons in connection with gambling last year and seized Rs 11 lakh, 145 cell phones, two cars and 102 bikes.

On march 8 alone, police registered 3 cases and arrested 24 persons in connection with gambling in Krishna river belt villages and seized Rs 2.70 lakh, 15 bikes and 21 cell phones from their possession and Huzurnagar court awarded 14 days judicial remand to 15 persons in this case under the gaming Act.

As per the official information, as much as Rs 2.5 lakh fine was imposed on persons who were involved and arrested by the police in gambling cases.

District SP Bhaaskran speaking to The Hans India stated that participating in illegal activities is a crime and punishable as per the law. Families will be ruined with illegal activities and children who generally follow in the footsteps of elders will also ruin their lives.

The SP advised the respective elders to give-up their illegal activities in the interest of families and future generations.
