Political control over sand mafia in Kamareddy
Birkur (Kamareddy): The villagers were furious at the police officials for releasing 23 tractors, which were transporting sand without a permit from Manjeera River on the outskirts of Kistapur village.
According to the villagers, as many as 27 tractors belonging to Chincholi and Kistapur villages went to the Manjeera river on the midnight of Thursday and returned after filling tractors with sand. Informed by the Kistapur villagers about sand illegal transportation, Banswada and Birkoor police caught the tractors at about 1 am on Friday. But four tractors' drivers managed to escape.
After knowing that the seized tractors belong to people's representatives and political leaders, the police were in a dilemma whether to impose fine or to leave them after issuing weigh bills.
Meanwhile, a few owners of seized sand tractors said that they not digging sand from the Manjeera river during midnight to sell in an open market but they will supply sand to places where development works are taking place, that too after taking official permission. But as per rules, tractors should enter into the river only after taking a weigh bill from the officials after 10 am. But tractors loading sand at midnight without any bills is leading to several doubts.
The officials released the seized tractors on Friday morning with the interference of leaders without taking any action and without imposing fine.
An official concerned said that the drivers of these tractors were told to take weight bills and to deliver the sand at the places where development works are taking place.
