Preparations begin for Medaram jatara

Mulugu: The Mulugu district administration has got down to look at the arrangements for the biennial Sammakka–Saralamma jatara (carnival), said to be Asia's biggest tribal fair, to be held at Medaram from February 5 to 8 next year. District Collector C Narayana Reddy directed the officials to ensure better amenities for the devotees, whose number is expected to be more than one crore.

Conducting a review meeting here on Wednesday, he told the officials of various departments work in tandem to complete the developmental works well before the commencement of jatara. He told them to come up with proposals before June 15. He told them to focus on shortcomings that occurred during the previous biennial jatara.

It may be recalled here that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao during his visit to the fair in 2018, announced a special fund of Rs 200 crore to provide permanent facilities at Medaram.

Superintendent of Police Sangram Singh G Patil, ITDA Project Director Chakradhar Rao, in charge DRO Rama Devi and DM&HO O Appaiah were among others present.
