Private medical colleges accused of fleecing students

Hyderabad: Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal had issued a circular in the last week of April in which it was stated that medical colleges will remain closed from May 1 to 31 on account of summer holidays.

However, some private medical colleges in the State are not implementing this circular, according to junior doctors.

And medicos (MBBS students) and even the teaching faculty are unhappy with the action of the medical colleges.

According to T JUDA chairman Dr PS Vijayender Goud, colleges are resorting to this only to burden students by collecting hostel and transport fees for the month of May.

"On the pretext of giving two weeks holidays from May 15 onwards, college managements collect fees for the entire month, which is roughly Rs 10,000 per month.

If they declare holidays for one month from May 1 onwards, students need not to pay any fee and hence they adopted the strategy.

I appeal to the university officials to come to the rescue of medicos by reining in medical colleges to follow the circular strictly," Dr Vijayender said.
