Public Safety Clubs for women launched in five Hyderabad colleges
Hyderabad: The Telangana Women Safety Wing on Tuesday launched 'Public Safety Clubs' for women and children in 5 colleges of Hyderabad. In order to create awareness and being ownership for various issues relating to public safety among student communities, Women Safety Wing is going to form 'Public Safety Clubs' in all government, government aided high schools, colleges and universities in the State.
'Safety Club' for girls and women in each educational institution will be established to create awareness on various girls and women safety issues within the colleges as well as in their neighbourhood.
Safety Club members will be the facilitators, who would bridge the gap between the youth, who are in need of support and the existing response mechanisms (Police, Legal Aid, Public Health, Education and others) available in the city for addressing girls' and women safety issues.
The pilot project has been started with help of Save the Children and Lead Life NGOs. Implementation of 'Volunteering Programme' in educational institutions was taken place at Sri Vivekananda Institute of Engineering and Technology auditorium on Tuesday in presence of chief guest Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and Swati Lakra, IGP Law & Order and Women Safety Wing.
Speaking on the occasion, Swati Lakra said that efforts are going on to make Telangana safer place for girls and women. Women Safety team is going to work closely with the young students to ensure the safety and security of girls.
Dr Andrew Fleming said that Safety Club will be a great opportunity to channelise the youth energies in addressing girls' safety issues. The colleges which are part of the pilot project on 'Volunteering Programme' and more than 3,000 students from 12 colleges have participated in the programme.
