Pulichintala Project brims with floodwater

Chintalapalem (Suryapet): Water level in Pulichintala Project designed to provide irrigation facility to 12 lakh acres of Krishna Delta is nearing its full tank level. On Saturday, water level in Pulichintala Project reached 43.59 tmc at 172.01 feet against the full tank level of 45.77 tmc at 175 feet.

Officials have been releasing 4914 cusecs of water to the downstream, whereas inflows recorded at 31975 cusecs. Meanwhile, flood water has been entering into famous Lord Laxmi Narasimha temple of Mattapally and water level in the main sanctum has risen to 3 feet with increasing levels of backwaters of Pulichintala project.

Prayers at Mattapally temple were stalled for the last 12 days as Pulichintala backwaters have entered the shrine. On the other hand, the officials concerned are trying their level best to drain water from the temple through motor pumps.

Priests of the temple have shifted the presiding deities of Swamy to Chennai trust peetham and allowing the devotees darshan there. On the other hand, crops of low-lying areas of Pulinchintala project were inundated in flood waters.
