R K Puram flyover back to square one

Update: 2019-11-02 07:24 IST

Ramakishtapuram: The condition of the RK Puram flyover never seems to be getting better. Just a few months ago, repairs were taken up but a few showers later, the situation is back to square one.

One of the oldest flyovers in Secunderabad that connects Sainikpuri to Secunderabad, it is once again in need of attention.

Following several complaints by the commuters, the GHMC took an initiative to fill the potholes by doing patchwork to fill the potholes before Ganesh Nimajjanam. However, the initiative was a short-lived solution.

The flyover, which is 600 meters long, is riddled with several uneven patchworks of potholes, causing bumpy rides for commuters. It is crucial for the people travelling from ECIL, Sainikpuri and Neredmet.

Samuel P, a regular commuter on the stretch, said that heavy vehicles and trucks use the flyover on a regular basis to reach the city. He further added, "This has made the condition of the flyover worse.

People travelling by two-wheelers are the ones who are facing much trouble due to this condition of the flyover." Koteshwar Rao, Executive Engineer, GHMC-Kapra, said, "The damage would have been caused because of the recent rain and the heavy vehicles that pass from the flyover.

However, the engineers would inspect the flyover soon and initiate necessary actions."

The middle of the bridge is scattered with potholes from the Army School side.

During the recent rains, motorists were stuck on the bridge for one-and-a-half hours and police had to divert traffic. Locals in the area also have been complaining on getting stuck in the flyover for more than half an hour.

Subramanian, a resident of Vasudeva Apartment in Neredmet, said, "The traffic is worse during the morning timings especially after 8 am. Vehicles are on the bridge for more than 20 minutes every day because of the terrible state of the road."
