Railways on a green mission in Warangal
Warangal: The Warangal railway station has commissioned a pet bottle crusher as part of Swach Bharat and Go Green Missions on Wednesday.
The machines are said to be cost-effective means for disposal of waste plastic bottles normally discarded on trains by passengers. The used pet water bottles will be shredded using this machine before disposing them in an eco-friendly method.
Station Master M Srinivas said that they have initiated cleanliness drive on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, which is also known as Sewa Diwas, at the Warangal railway station. The members of Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation also participated in the programme along with all the railway employees.
Srinivas said the station was placed third in all-India ranking on cleanliness in 'A' category stations. It also recently received a facelift as part of the South Central Railway's renovation programme. The west side station building got a modern elevation with a spacious concourse, a general waiting hall, an upper class waiting hall and a pay-and-use toilet. Granite flooring was fixed on platform-1 to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards.
Rainwater harvesting pits, new LED signage boards, coach and train indication boards have also been provided on all the platforms for the station which handles 76 express trains and 10 passenger trains with daily passenger footfall of more than 32,000.
