Rajendranagar: GHMC puts illegal units on notice
Rajendranagar: The GHMC Rajendranagar circle has started issuing notices to the illegal industries in Shastripuram, a residential colony under Mailardevpally village, under Rajendranagar.
According to GHMC officials, different wings of Corporation are now being engaged it this activity following recent High Court direction to control the illegal units. The GHMC sanitary as well as town planning staff started issuing notices to the industries operating in residential area.
"Last week we have issued 345 show cause notices collectively in and around Shastripuram colony. Over 143 notices issued in one part of the Shastripuram while 202 were issued in other part of the colony known as Tata Nagar. Later on, we have even issued closure notices to the industries," said an official.
It may be mentioned here that last week the high court came down heavily on the Rajendranagar GHMC Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar for filing an inappropriate report pertaining to the number of illegal industries operating in Shastripuram colony. Though the DC in his report mentioned that only three plastic units were currently being run in the colony, the actual number was found 300 times more during the inspection made by the member secretary Telangana State Legal Service Authority, G V Subramanyam.
The member secretary, in his report to HC, mentioned that only one part of the Shastripuram Colony carries around 125 industrial units amidst the houses while the other part known as Tata Nagar carries about 250 industries with different mechanical and chemical operations.
Infuriated with the flawed report submitted to the Court, the Chief Justice ordered the GHMC Commissioner to be present in the court on March 11 to clarify about 'perjury' committed by the DC, Rajendranagar. The 31-year- old HUDA colony is an approved residential layout that spreads around 284 acres of area. While the industries occupied the entire southern part of the Shastripuram colony and was named after Tata Nagar, the remaining part of the colony also started witnessing industrial activities in the recent years, with numerous units coming up amidst the houses.
