Ramadugu pumps are in place: Transco & Genco Chairman D Prabhakar Rao

Hyderabad: Telangana Transco and Genco Chairman and Managing Director D Prabhakar Rao on Saturday said that high capacity pumps to lift water from Medigadda to Mallannasagar and Sriramsagar are ready.

He said the arrangements for the supply of power to these pump sets are in place. He visited the Ramadugu Pump House on Saturday, which consists of highest capacity pumps nowhere like in the world.

Each pump has a capacity of 139 MW. About seven such pumps have been established here.

Under the Kaleswaram project the water of Godavari is now reaching Sundilla from Kannepalli. Soon the water would reach Ramadugu. From here the water would be pumped to Mallanna Sagar and to Sriram Sagar.

Prabhakar Rao examined the works of erecting the pump sets as they are the key for the whole project. Erection of five pumps has been completed and works of the remaining would be completed soon. A 400 KV dedicated substation has been provided here.

Speaking on the occasion, Prabhakar Rao said that pumps had been erected at several places to lift water to a height of 500 meters under Kaleswaram project.

He said that no power utility in the world has an experience and history of running such huge pumps. He said that 4,700 MW of power would be used to lift water to irrigate about 45 lakh acres.

He said that pumps being erected at Ramadugu have the highest capacity in the world. Prabhakar Rao said that 11 pumps have been established at Kannepalli, 8 at Medaram, 9 at Sundilla, 7 at Nandimedaram, 4 at Thippapur and four at Chandlapur.
