Rasta roko staged against grabbing of Gurukul land
Patancheru: Students of Social Welfare Gurukul Girls School, Chitkul, on Wednesday staged a 'rasta roko' on national highway at Isnapur crossroads along with leaders of the Struggle Committee against Caste Discrimination (KVPS) to protest against the grabbing of the school land and attack on Dalit students by principal Ravinder Reddy and followers of one Lakshmi Rajyam.
The leaders, who joined the protest, include KVPS vice-president Manikyam, Sahasam State president Prakash, SFI district president Sandeep, Parents' Association president Ashok and others. They demanded that the government should demolish unauthorised construction on the grabbed land, while warning of staging a massive agitation if the demand was not conceded.
The protesters demanded registration of a case under the SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act against Lakshmi Rajyam and her associates for abusing the Dalit students in the name of caste. The district KVPS leaders Santosh, Srikanth, district Dalit organisations' leaders Praveen and Ganesh were present. The rasta roko resulted in a traffic jam. Patancheru CI Naresh and staff reached the spot and persuaded the protesters to end their stir after holding discussions with the leaders.
