Hyderabad: State universities for the past six months are waiting for the attention of the State Governor and the Chancellor of the universities to conduct the pending review meetings.

According to sources in the Osmania University, former Governor ESL Narasimhan held a review meeting with the vice-chancellors of all the State universities about eight months ago. During the meeting, the VCs were asked to prepare action plans on the activities of their respective universities.

The plans included academic calendar covering admissions till the final examinations. Further, Narasimhan had also expressed his displeasure over the growing menace of awarding sub-standard doctoral degrees, poor research and development activities on the campuses.

It was against this backdrop he asked the VCs to submit their vision and mission documents with perspective plans in a bid to streamline the university education in the State.

Following this, the OU had submitted its report and several other universities have also submitted with some delay. Speaking to The Hans India, a senior official from the Kakatiaya University said, "The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) had collected all the reports from the universities, In turn, it has to submit a comprehensive report to the chancellor, which will be followed by another round of vice-chancellors meeting with the Governor."

However, for the reasons unknown Narasimhan could not give time after the universities submitted their reports to the TSCHE. Also, there is no word about it from the Raj Bhavan on the review meeting for more than six months.

"Delay in the appointment of the regular vice-chancellors and precarious funds flow to the development works hitting the day to day functioning of the universities hard. Adding to this, despite the State government giving its node for the recruitment of faculty members the same is hanging in balance for the last two years," he said.

All these issues were on the agenda during the review meeting after the submission of the reports as asked by the then governor. But, the only thing that the universities remained clueless is the date of the next round of meeting.
