Rhythmic gymnastics stadium coming up
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is building a rhythmic gymnastics stadium at an estimated cost of Rs 45 lakh at Chandanagar. Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport that is not yet popular. Only a few have taken up the sport but there is a growing awareness.
It is a sport performed on a floor using equipment like hula hoops, balls, clubs, ropes or ribbons. It requires strength, agility, flexibility, endurance and balance.
The proposal for the gymnastic stadium was approved during the tenure of D Hari Chandana when she was the zonal commissioner for Serilingampally. The present zonal commissioner Ravi Kiran is executing the project and is expected to be complete in the next two months.
A Anurag, AE, Chandanagar, GHMC, says, "The stadium covering 62ft by 62ft floor area with 30ft height roof is under construction. The practice mat covering 45ft by 45ft was procured from Germany.
Explaining the features of the stadium, Chinna Reddy, Executive Engineer, GHMC, said, "The stadium is being built with a budget of 45 lakhs to support the players. Hyderabad has a lot of potential and the stadium should help nurture talent."
Presently there are few into the sport. Alice Joe from the city did make a mark but has now retired from the sport.
