Nagarkurnool: The news of rice being mixed with plastic grains at a rice mill in Ramapuram village of Kollapur mandal in Nagarkurnool district has created flutter among the people of the village on Tuesday as one of the farmer's family members had reportedly fallen seriously ill after consuming the rice mixed with the plastic grains.

According to sources, a farmer, Kammari Kurmaiah, from Ramapur village had got his paddy milled at Mahaboob Matran Rice mill two months ago. Since then, their family has been consuming the same rice and were suffering stomach aches, body aches and etc. Not just one member, but all the family members were facing some or the other health problems.

When they got their health check-up done, they came to know from the doctor that their problems were due to food poison. Upon the doctor's suggestion, the family members grew suspicious and inspected the rice grains and to their surprise, they found that the rice was adultered with some plastic grains which resembled the real rice grains.

"We were shocked to find out that our rice was adultered with plastic grains and this was causing health problems for the last two months. We have immediately approached the rice miller and confronted him," informed Kammari Kurmaiah.

However, when the villagers along with the family members went and asked about the adultered rice being supplied from his rice mill, the owner of Mahaboob Matran Rice Mill denied his role and said he was innocent and did not know anything about it.

The villagers along with the members of the victim family filed a case at Kollapur police station against the mill owner for supplying adulterated rice and playing with their health. "We are demanding the district authorities and civil supplies department to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and punish those involved in the adulteration of food grains," said a villager of Ramapur.
