Run organised for girl child empowerment in Gachibowli
Gachibowli: A fourth edition of the 'Run for Girl Child 2020' was organised here on Sunday by Seva Bharathi, to promote awareness about the programme "Kishori Vikas" in order to empower the girl child.
The Run for A Girl Child is the flagship event for Kishori Vikas programme. The run was flagged off at Gachibowli Stadium by Justice Kodanda Ram and the DGP & Chairman of Road Safety Authority, Krishna Prasad. The run was categorised in three distances – 5km, 10km and 21km. This run saw 7,000 participants from individuals, corporates, families and students. It started from Gachibowli Stadium with 5Km continued till Hyderabad Central University, whereas 10Km and 21Km through Central University and back to Stadium.
Around 500 Kishori Vikas beneficiaries participated in the event and demonstrated various cultural and self-defence skills. Harika Dronavalli – Arjun awardee & Chess grand master awarded the winners. Corporates like Freedom Oil, Globaldata, Avineon, GGK Tech, Electronic Arts, NMDC, Capgemini, Manjeera Constructions, GEP, Genpact and many IT companies participated.
"At present, 210 Kishori Vikas centres are active across slums of Hyderabad with 5348 beneficiaries. Through this run, the aim is to increase this to 400 Kishori centers and 10,000 beneficiaries. These centres empower girl children residing in slums and Low income areas by helping them in their Education, Health and Skill Development" Seva Bharathi general secretary Rama Murthy Prabhala said. Besides, EZE Software, MAHA Cements, Quantium, West Pharma, HARSCO, GATI, iTelligence, Zen Technolgies, Landmark Hospitals and others provided partnership and support.
