Hanamkonda: Warangal Rural Zilla Parishad chairperson Gandra Jyothy has expressed concern over the environmental degradation. In her first press conference here on Monday after assuming office, she said that her first priority at the moment would be on Haritha Haram. Stressing the importance of taking up plantation drive on a massive note, she appealed to the people to associate themselves with the Haritha Haram programme which is aimed at protecting the environment through afforestation.

Talking on education, she told the people to utilise the umpteen numbers of institutions and facilities established by the State government. "The onus is on officials concerned to prepare students in rural pockets on par with the standards of urban areas," Jyothy said. She emphasised the need for teachers relocate themselves in their respective workplaces so that they can focus on imparting quality education to the students. Jyothy said that she would start inspecting schools and hostels soon.

"The farmers, who are availing government's welfare schemes such as Rythu Bandhu, also need proper guidance to turn their farming successful," she said, urging agriculture officials to help them. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is keen to bail out farming sector, she said, stating that Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project would soon turn the State a rice bowl.

Responding to a query, she played down the BJP's target to grow as a major opposition in Telangana. "The BJP which ignored the demand for national status for Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and the assurances given to Telangana in the AP Reorganisation Act would not get a footing in the State," she said.

Rural ZP CEO C Rajaram was present.
