Saidi Reddy sets a record by winning Huzurnagar with 43,000 votes majority
Suryapet: Shanampudi Saidi Reddy realised his dream of becoming an MLA by defeating Congress candidate N Padmavathi Reddy in Huzurnagar bypoll with a record majority of 43,358 votes.
In 2018 Assembly elections, Saidi Reddy was defeated by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Uttam Kumar Reddy by 8,000 votes. The bypoll to Huzurnagar constituency was necessitated after Uttam quit from his MLA post and was elected as Nalgonda MP in the Parliament elections which were conducted later in May.
Meanwhile, after the high voltage campaign by top leaders and local satraps of Congress, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Bharatiya Janata Party and Telugu Desam Party for by-election, the polling was conducted on October 21. Amid tight security and CCTV surveillance, the counting of votes was carried out in a warehouse of Agriculture market in Suryapet town.
In Huzurnagar bypoll, as many as 2,00,726 voters exercised their franchise as against the total of 2,36,842. The polled votes were counted in 22 rounds. The counting that started at 8 am came to an end at about 3 pm when the results were declared.
In every round of counting of votes, TRS candidate Shanampudi Saidi Reddy got consistent lead ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 votes and won with a record majority of 43,358 votes.
After completion of final round, Saidi Reddy secured 1,13,094 votes and his rival candidate Padmavathi got 69,736 votes.
Speaking to the media, Saidi Reddy said the people of Huzurnagar were impressed by the power-packed speech of TRS working president KT Rama Rao during the election campaign and voted for car to pave the way for the development of the constituency in next four years.
He thanked Ministers Jagadish Reddy and Satyavathi Rathod, party poll in-charge MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, MLAs, MLCs, MPs and local leaders and cadre who extended their cooperation for his victory.
Meanwhile, Congress candidate Padmavathi alleged that EVM tampering took place in the bypoll and informed that along with independent candidates, she lodged a complaint with the returning officer with regard to EVM tampering and would think knocking the doors of court if necessary.
BJP, TDP come behind independent candidate
BJP candidate K Rama Rao and TDP candidate Chava Kiranmai secured 2,639 and 1,827 votes respectively and stood in 4th and 5th places respectively. Independent candidate Sapavath Suman proved his mettle by securing third position by winning 2,697 votes and grabbed the attention of Huzurnagar people.
As many as 28 candidates including those from registered parties and independents contested for Huzurnagar bypoll, except Congress candidate Padmavathi, all other 26 candidates including BJP and TDP candidates lost their deposit. Meanwhile, 506 voters opted for NOTA.
It may be noted here that Saidi Reddy made a new record by securing 43,358 votes and broke the record of Uttam who won the same seat in united Andhra Pradesh by 29,194 votes majority. So far, elections were conducted for seven times to Huzurnagar constituency but no winner got the majority as that of Saidi Reddy.
Meanwhile, TRS leaders and cadre across the erstwhile Nalgonda district celebrated Saidi Reddy's victory by distributing sweets and bursting crackers.
