Schools, colleges to reopen from today
Hyderabad: Educational institutions in Telangana, including schools, junior colleges, degree colleges are set to reopen academic classes from Monday (October 21 onwards).
Fake messages went viral on social media that the government was likely to extend holidays as RTC strike was still on. But the Education Department did not go for another extension.
Academicians and educationists stated that TRS government faced severe criticism from all quarters after it extended Dasara vacation by another week and hence it was understandable that government did not dare to repeat the extension decision again citing continuation of RTC strike.
Better sense prevailed on the government as students academic interests are at stake, they said.
Coming to re-opening, the government and private schools affiliated to the State Education Department as well as CBSE and ICSE schools are resuming classes after nearly a month's gap (24 days to be exact).
The last working day in most of the schools was September 27 and they were supposed to reopen from October 14. However, the Education Department's order to close schools until October 19 meant students got an extended one-week holidays.
Junior colleges and degree colleges in the State were closed for Dasara vacation from September 28 till October 9. They all reopened on October 10 and conducted classes till October 13.
However, the government's decision to close educational institutions in view of RTC strike meant they also had to shut for a week and resume classes again from Monday (October 21).
When it comes to engineering colleges, some of them gave their own buses to the Transport Department for public transport during the RTC strike.
Now that colleges are slated to resume from October 21, colleges have asked authorities to relieve them of public transport duties so that they could focus on ferrying students and staff to college and their residences daily.
