SCR encourages NGOs for free distribution of buttermilk, water sachets

Hyderabad: South Central Railway is encouraging Voluntary organizations to organise summer relief camps to comfort the passengers during the prevailing unprecedented heat conditions of the summer season. At several important stations Passengers are being provided with free buttermilk sachets, cool water packets etc., since more than two weeks.

SCR General Manager Gajanan Mallya advised the officials to initiate special measures for the safety and comfort of passengers' health during the summer season. As part of the social responsibility towards the valued passengers the zone is extending cooperation by providing space and other required amenities at the railway stations to encourage the associations and organisations involved in voluntary services. Secunderabad division of South Central Railway, with the help of Non-Governmental Organizations and Voluntary Associations initiated distribution of drinking water sachets & butter milk packets at major railway stations like Hyderabad, Begumpet, Hi-tech city, Nature Cure Hospital, Lingampalli and Parli Vaijnath etc.,

At several stations, Railway staff have come forward to voluntarily contribute money for supplying water and buttermilk to the passengers. Vijayawada division is also roped in several voluntary organizations to establish help centres to provide buttermilk, cool water packets and free water distribution stored in earthen pots for the comfort of thirsty passengers. Major railway stations including Vijayawada, Ongole, Nellore, Gudur, Bapatla and Rajahmundry stations are provided with such facilities. Similar facilities are being provided at Guntur, Nanded Railway stations also.

The General Manager also directed the officials to procure Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets and distribute amongst the open line field staff and employees working in all railway station premises, workshops, sheds over the zone. Further, the General Manager reviewed the implementation of initiatives at the stations in respect to supply of free drinking water and butter milk packets. General Manager directed all railway officials to continuously monitor the action plan in similar lines at majority of the railway stations.
