Sheep distribution from Jan 16 in Telangana: Minister Talasani

Animal husbandry minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said that the distribution of sheep will be commenced from January 16 in the state. "Around Rs 360 is being spent on the sheep distribution programme by the government. In the first phase, the government is aimed to distribute 7.61 lakh sheep and so far, 76.93 sheep were distributed in the state thus enhancing the sheep production," the minister said.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao instructed the minister to resume the sheep distribution programme. The sheep distribution has been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, the government identified nearly 30,000 beneficiaries under the sheep distribution programme. The programme provides 75 per cent subsidy to the beneficiaries among the Golla Kuruma community.

The CM said that the special allocation of funds will be made in the state budget in the next financial year to the sheep distribution scheme and also decided to start the second phase of the programme after the funds were allocated.
