Shine director, four others held for baby's death in hospital fire in Hyderabad
The police on Friday arrested Shine hospital managing director Sunil Kumar and four others five days after the death of a baby in the fire accident.
The four-month-old baby boy succumbed to serious burn injuries in the early hours on October 21 after a massive broke out at neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The other arrested were Dr Hari Krishna, who was on at the time of the mishap, Sravanti, duty nurse at NICU, Shanti Deepika, duty nurse at Paediatric ICU and Basheeruddin, electrician.
The arrested were produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial remand. On October 21, a fire engulfed through NICU on the fourth floor of the hospital building. The fire is believed to have spread from behind the refrigerator. Another person identified as Vicky, who was close to the fridge also died.
The hospital is said to have lacked emergency fire exits and no fire escape warning systems.
Vicky's father, a police constable filed a complaint, based on which the police registered a case and arrested the accused.
